Humboldt State visits Acker Gym on Friday, with the Wildcats entertaining Sonoma State Saturday. 23, 2007.Ĭhico State returns home next weekend for a pair of tough CCAA matchups. The 88 points were the most for a Wildcat team since a 93-76 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay back on Feb. That would be as close as the Warriors would get, though, as Collins, Hamilton and Smith hit nine clutch free throws down the stretch to give Chico State the 88-80 victory over Stanislaus and a sweep of the season series. Stanislaus refused to go away, reeling off 11 straight points to make the score 79-71 with 2:57 left. The Wildcats came back with nine unanswered points – Taylor Lydon's 3-point bucket giving Chico State a 79-60 lead with 6:39 to play. Chico State was still up 19 when Stanislaus used 3-pointers by Busi, Erin Godde and Jameiz Terrell to trigger an 11-2 run to pull to within 70-60. Chico State responded with a 14-2 run – Smith taking the lead with two 3-pointers, a layup and a pair of free throws – to give the 'Cats a seemingly comfortable 61-42 lead. The Warriors started strong, scoring 13 of the first 17 points to cut the Wildcats' advantage to six. The second half saw several scoring runs as both the Chico State and Stanislaus offenses heated up. Layups by Ferrall, Courtney Hamilton and McKenzie Dalthorp kept the Chico State offense clicking in the half's final minutes, and the Wildcats took a 40-27 lead into intermission. Stanislaus answered with a pair of buckets to cut the deficit to four, but Chico State proceeded to string together 11 unanswered points – Miller providing the exclamation point with a 3-pointer – to put the 'Cats up 29-14. With the contest knotted up at eight apiece, the Wildcats ripped off the first of two big runs – Marquardt delivered a pair of layups and Miller added a jumper and two free throws to highlight a 10-2 surge to put the Wildcats in front 18-10. Smith set the tone in the opening period, draining a 3-pointer for the first score of the ballgame. Katie Busi paced Stanislaus with 22 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and six steals Cristin Gowan scored 15 for the Warriors in the losing effort. Kristin Marquardt was held to just four points but hauled in a team-high seven rebounds. Pauline Ferrall poured in 16 points Jazmine Miller scored nine, and Molly Collins chipped in with eight points and five rebounds. Natasha Smith posted one of the biggest games of her Chico State career, leading the Wildcats with 28 points on the afternoon while also contributing five rebounds and three assists.
